"Surround yourself with people who make you hungry for life, touch your heart, and nourish your soul."
This right here is inspirational gold for me. Think about it... if you spent your time with these sorts of people, every moment would fill you with energy to deal with all the other low times and frustrations you will encounter in life. The alternative is to spend time with people who drain you or simply make you feel nothing. How sad would feeling nothing be? And how would you have any energy left to deal with the big trials in life? Those are going to happen and you will need people you can count on in hard those times.
I work in corporate IT departments most days. In those departments your customers often don't like you, they have unreal expectations of a what magic their computer can do, and they have zero patience for any thing to take longer then a nano second to complete. People will treat you how you let them treat you. We the IT geeks have done it to our selves really. We stay up late researching and learning new technology all the time. When we automate some new process, the masses chant our name in praise... for about 5 seconds. Then they want the next bigger, better, and flashier thing. It is completely ex-hosting. And I have been at it for way to many years now. So you can imagine why so many of my fellow techies have started looking for a career change. Seeking some other way to continue to feed their love of learning with out being put on call for weeks on end, with very little sleep, and being yelled at all the time for things they have little to no control over. I could write pages on how the best paying job in the world means nothing if its eating you alive. But we will save that for another day. Back on target...
The advice to surround yourself with uplifting people resonates so deeply with me. I have a great group of friends that fill me with a hunger for life. These are the souls that get it when I quote and old movie and it almost brings tears to my eyes, or when I stop my bike to take a random picture of the scenery. They understand how a well told story can bring so much light to my smile. They are not your average corporate folks, and I love them so much for that. Their spirit can recharge me and re-ignite my desire to be more then I am now. It fuels that creative need deep inside of me... that need that makes me write, take random photos, make up crazy voices, spend hours piecing together a video of our rides together. They make it possible for me to deal with the trolls and hate filled people I encounter in my work. And I try to do the same for them. Even if its just a well placed impression here and there. Or the off color comment that brings out the full belly laughs. Now those are the best gifts... the laughter that makes you gasp for breath and tears run down your cheeks.
You know how that saying goes... " If you are lucky enough to find a weirdo, never let them go"? I have found my group of weirdos, and they keep me from giving up on my dreams, Now its time for you to find your group. Do you have the sort of people that fill your days with joy? They are out there so don't settle for anything less. You are worth it and so are they. Plus you just might be the weirdo some one else if looking for ;-)
