"Live in such a way that if someone should speak badly of you no one would believe it."

I have always loved this quote.  It reminds me that no matter what some one else says about me or does to me I am still responsible to be a good person and react in a positive way.  I used to say that I want my grave stone to say, " He was always a good guy."   Not a overly nice guy or a push over, just a good guy.

That often leads to another quote I love... "Don't mistake my kindness for weakness. I am kind to everyone, but when someone is unkind to me, weak is not what you are going to remember about me."  It Reminds me not to be a door mat either.  ;-)

" We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."

Don't get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.  I like to say that I work to live. Meaning that even though I work hard at what I do, I always remember that I work so that I can have a life.

If you look at the pictures I post the bottom of each blog you will see a quick snap shot into my life. Sometimes its a picture of me at work, but most often its a picture of me with a loved one, or of some fun thing we were doing. I like to joke with my friends that I run a small consulting business to pay for motor cycle parts. But its more then that... I put money away so I can take more then just 2 weeks a year to explore the world.  I want my life to be full of small moments that expand my world and help me learn.  I want to make my life full of experiences and pass on what I learn to my kids.  I hope you have just a bit of the wander lust that fuels me.  We will all learn so much more and love so much deeper if we take the time to live our lives, and not just watch them happen.

So go out an live life.  Get your hands dirty, get your feet wet... "Knock on the Sky and listen to the sound. "  ~Kevin Flinn, Tron: Legacy

"Sometimes the most scenic roads in  life are the detours you didn't mean to take." ~Anglea N. Blount

Its funny where life leads you some times.  Call it fate, or a plan form a higher power, or just plane luck.  What ever it is, take joy in the detours you encounter.  Some of them will become your most cherished memories.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

"When you start seeing your worth, you'll find it harder to stay around those who don't."

I love, love, LOVE this note!  Its such a great reminder for all of us to believe in our selves.

How many times have you stayed around people who do not appreciate you?  Just stood there an let some one treat you like less then you are worth?  Essentially casting your pearls before swine.  To many times I am sure.  We all have. We convince our selves it is OK, or that what they said didn't really hurt. Or even worse that we deserved how we were treated. Its like a vicious cycle that we repeat with worse and worse results.  And little by little we self destruct.  Please stop.... please don't let that happen.

When you take the time to love your self, you are breaking that cycle. You are giving your self value from the one and only source that matters... You.  Its not easy., oh no.  Its tough stuff to love your self... but aren't you worth it?  You know you are.  Nothing is so bad that you cannot forgive your self.  Unless your that guy who picks on little kids... then you may have to put in some extra effort and knock that crap off first.  But you can still get better.

Seriously though, take a moment to like your self.  Just start there and build on that action. Give your self a hug and get stronger.  And before you know it, you will be on your way to removing the poison from your life.  You can do it, I know because I have had to do it myself.

You got this, and remember I believe in you!

Lunch Box Wisdom 25 Oct 2016...

Late night... almost forgot my note :)

Lunch Box Wisdom 24 Oct 2016...

Lunch Box Wisdom 24 Oct 2016...

"Your words of encouragement could be the spark that pushes a person forward. "

What were your words to a loved one this morning?  Did you uplift them?  Did you compliment them on their choices? Did you leave them with a feeling of security and love? It only takes a small bit of encouragement to propel someone towards a great day, a great victory, or simply put a smile on their face.  I think we tend to gravitate towards what we focus on... be-little or degrade someone they will feel little, unworthy and unloved. Offer them positive reinforcement and they will achieve more then you could ever imagine.

We have all heard stories of when some one was kind and offered encouraging words to a stranger and later learned those simple words turned the tide of sadness and they decided not to end their life.  Words have power and kindness can overcome great odds.

So I challenge you to offer encouragement to some one today.  Tell them they can do it, what ever it is, and you just might see the light in their eyes brighten.  You might even feel warmth in your own heart and find the spark you need to take the next step your self.

Remember, I believe in you

"Caring about what people think of you is useless.  Most people don't even know what they think of themselves. " ~WordPorn

Oh, I am so bad at this!  Hence the note from my Wendy. She knows that I care way to much.  I care about what they are thinking, how they are feeling, if they had enough to eat, are they alone... I ache to make everyone feel all better all the time. Ugh... It is so hard being a nice guy some times.  The other part that sucks is when you are done being nice and you just wanna be left alone.  Then people are all, "What's wrong with him? Why is so quite to day."  Can you see my struggle here?

Anyway, enough of my issues.  Lets talk about you, my favorite subject!

Honestly, when I start to worry about what others think of me, I try to remember that it's none of my business.  Put that into context for yourself.  If you are dancing in the rain, getting soaking wet,  and loving every second... it does not matter what Ralph, George or Henry think.  Ralph may be all, "My Dear, you shall surely catch your death of cold." and George, " Get it girl!  Shake that thang!"  While Henry, ever the optimist and art lover, might think, "The relation of your wet dress to the wet leaves of a tree brings me to tears."  They all have different opinions and not one of them really matters... just do what you feel is best. Some will cheer and some will boo and that's OK.  Did you enjoy the dance?  Did you laugh and have fun? Did you find something in you feeling lighter or more free?  That's what matters.  And your shoes... you have to have great shoes... just kidding ;-)

I try to remember that everyone is trying to figure out their own life, and when they "should" all over you its because they don't have it all figured out either. So do what you love and don't worry about what someone else thinks.  Ask your self what you think and what you feel.  That matters way more.

Try it.  Look inside instead of outside for validation today. I believe in you, so believe in yourself.

Lunch Box Wisdom 17 Oct 2016...

"It's No the future that you're afraid of, It's repeating the pas that makes you anxious."

Hey Folks,

Another quick one today, but a powerful message.

People think they are afraid of what is new or unknown, but often its really a fear of repeating a past failure or mistake. As a society we tend punish each other for our mistakes when we really should celebrate them for the lessons we learn from them. Don't get me wrong... I am plenty upset when I brake something or crash and burn. But I choose not to camp out in the crater of my mistake. I get up, dust off and start to climb out and onto better things.

I want to challenge you to do the same. Next time you crash in life, love or business... take a look around at the damage. Then look for the lesson in the wreckage.  Its there... buried under the rubble and dust... like a gem waiting to be discovered. Then take that little gem of learning and celebrate what you discovered.

You can do it, I believe in you!

Lunch Box Wisdom 1 July 2016...

Lunch Box Wisdom 1 July 2016...

"What ever you decide to do... make sure it makes you happy! "

Do you have things you do just because you have to?  We all do.  There is the trash, the dishes, laundry... never ending laundry... But we are not talking about the day to day that everyone has to do. We are talking about the things you choose to spend your time on.  For example today I choose to write blog entry. I could have done all sorts of the things, but the few hours I get to spend on a blog entry always gives me a that good warm feeling.  I could have cleaned the garage, or revised my resume for the 7th time in two weeks ( I'll have to explain that one later), or take the puppies for a walk.  None of those are really bad choices, but choosing to write and entry today will give me the energy and inspiration to do all those other things better.

The hunt for another IT day job has consumed me for almost 6 months now and it's incredibly frustrating.  I have over 25 years in this field, and I am exceptionally skilled in all sorts of systems and infrastructure.  I have worked all over the world and for all sizes of companies, but I am still job hunting.  Luckily, I run a small consulting company, but its not enough to pay all the bills. So long story short... the 8th revision to my resume may not have been the best way to start my day.  Yes, I need to update it and send it to latest recruiter, but this side track to talk to all of you will give me the "happy" I need to tackle yet another day of interviews with people who know very little about what they need some one like me to do. While I am trying to convince the HR person that my beard does not detract from my ability to present technical solutions to executives over video conferences, I will have this morning of clarity to help me keep smiling.  Additionally, I will have this morning to help me stay awake while I am working on laptop riddled with viruses from an owner swears, " I never downloaded those questionable files".  Let's be honest, those are my favorites.  The ones where no one knows how all the strange pictures got onto there, and the logs of late night chats must belong to someone else... :-) Yes, your buddy that fixes PC's know where you have been on the internet. And if he/she is really good they will fix the problems with out telling you they know about your addiction to cat videos and dungeon porn. It's OK, I have seen it all ;-)

I just finished a book by Jenny Lawson titled, "Furiously Happy" and it was so fun and I learned so much about making the most of the good moments. She has written other books too, and her blog is great!  When she writes about Victor (her Husband) and their conversations it reminds me of some of the wonderful talks I have with my Muse Wendy. She puts up with a lot of randomness from me and I realize Jenny and Victor have similar conversations.  Jenny, you channel my desire for random adventures with Mr. Moose and the Moose family so well, thank you for your Book and for understanding your self so well....

So back to you.  I encourage you to take a moment and look at what you are deciding to do today.  Make it a positive choice. There are all sorts of things we have to do, but the things you choose to do today will set the tone for every thing you encounter.  Choose to smile, choose to be kind, and choose one thing to do that makes you happy... You will be so glad you did.

Have a great day folks! Remember, I believe in you :-)
